ANDERSON, S.C. -- Sophomore Lasse Sohrweide knocked home the
game-winning goal in the fifth minute of the second overtime to
lift the men's soccer team past North Greenville, 3-2, in
non-conference action Friday night at the AU Soccer Field. "We
finished well," said Anderson head coach Rob Miller. "We were down
a player, and gutted out the last part of the game. But it's good
to get a win." Freshman Ben Jones started off the scoring for the
Trojans six minutes into the second half. However the Crusaders did
not go away and answered back with goals by senior Seth Snyder and
junior Jonathan Restrepo. Trailing 2-1 late in the contest, it was
not looking good for the Trojans, but sophomore Ryan Messick
blasted a shot past the Crusader goal keeper with just five minutes
to play in regulation and regulation ended with the score tied at
two. Both teams had chances in the first overtime, however noone
was able to find the back of the net. Half-way through the second
overtime, Sohrweide was able to control a beautifully played ball
from Zach Denson, and maneuvered around the Crusader keeper to find
the net for the game-winner, his second of the season. "We really
finished well the last 20 minutes of the game," said Miller, after
his squad stayed perfect at home on the 2009 season and ran its
home unbeaten streak to 16 matches. Sohrweide recorded a match-high
six shots and Denson notched assists on both AU scores. AU outshot
the Crusaders 23-8 on the night, including 13-3 in shots on goal
and held a 12-0 advantage in corner kicks. Anderson gets back on
the pitch on Wednesday, w hen the Trojans play host to Peach Belt
Conference-foe Lander at the AU Soccer Field. Kick-off is scheduled
for 5 p.m. in the first match of a men's/women's doubleheader.
