Trojans Dominate SWU Enroute to 3-0 Shutout in Home Opener

ANDERSON, S.C. – Anderson University Women's Soccer (1-1, 0-0 SAC) defeated nonconference opponent Southern Wesleyan University (0-1, 0-0 CC) in a 3-0 shutout at home Saturday evening.

The Trojans advance to 4-0 against the Warriors with their most recent matchup resulting in a 5-0 victory at home in Sept. 2016.

"We are happy with the result of our home opener and look forward to building on the momentum as we enter conference play." said head coach, Sarah Jacobs. The crowd was fantastic and we were able to feed off their energy."

Anderson broke through on a set piece in the 18th minute, as senior forward Kaitlyn Gregory (Cincinnati, Ohio) sent a corner kick into the box that found the heads of sophomore Gabby Kirchner (Lavallette, N.J.) and Lauren Johnson (Hoschton, S.C.) to send the ball into the back of the net. Senior Whitley Anderson (Eatonton, Ga.) scored the second goal for the Trojans shortly after in the 20th minute, off a stellar pass from Gregory to round out the half.

Scoring Anderson's final goal in the 3-0 shutout victory was senior Lauren Monday (Anderson, S.C.) who redirected a corner kick by sophomore Jazel DeOliveira (Florianopolis, Brazil) into the back of the net.

In the goal for the Black & Gold and securing her first shutout victory of the season with six noteworthy saves on the contest, was senior Aliyah Morgan (Fort Myers, Fla.). Sophomore Molly Estes (Waxhaw, N.C.) also appeared in goal, tallying 18 minutes with a single save.

Offensively, the Trojans dominated the field, holding a 14-9 advantage in shots and an 8-7 edge in shots on goal over the Warriors. Anderson tallied five corners to SWU's three while also recording eight fouls on the night.
