HICKORY, N.C. – Anderson University Softball (38-13, 17-5 SAC), fell 5-8 to Lincoln Memorial (25-22, 12-10 SAC) in the South Atlantic Conference Tournament Championship Finals Saturday afternoon.
The Trojans brought early momentum with a single by sophomore
Chloe Maness (Belton, S.C.) in the top of the second to put Anderson on the board after senior
Jenna Davis (Anderson, S.C.) scored. The Railsplitters quickly responded with a statement homer to even the score in the bottom of the inning. The Black and Gold scored on a fielding error in the fourth to take back a 2-1 lead. LMU rallied six runs to close out the fourth with a 7-2 advantage. Down in the fifth, singles by freshman
Bella Harbour (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) and
Jenna Davis boasted three runs for the Trojans, narrowing the deficit 5-7. A sacrifice fly late in the sixth secured the victory for the Railsplitters after the Trojans were unable to capitalize on scoring opportunities during the final innings.
Jenna Davis led the Black and Gold at bat after going 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs. Harbour and Maness each recorded a single RBI while freshman
Kara Davis (Duncan, S.C.) tallied three hits during her four at bats on the game.
In the circle for the Trojans was senior
Carson Hobbs (Nicholson, Ga.) (13-5), pitching 4.1 innings while recording four strikeouts and allowing only two earned runs for a 3.23 ERA. Freshman
Kora Kilgore (Smithville, Tenn.) recorded 1.2 innings on the mound with a single strikeout.
