Box Score SUMTER, S.C. -- The No. 5 Trojans earned a gritty 4-2 win over No. 4 Newberry College on Thursday afternoon in the South Atlantic Conference Quarterfinals. Anderson moves on to play No. 1 Catawba tomorrow, April 17 at 1 p.m.
Anderson had to get gritty in doubles and singles to earn the win. They went down one in doubles before earning wins at courts two and three. At the No. 2 spot, junior
Gigi Sompayrac (Knoxville, Tenn.) and sophomore
Ensley Collins (Cleveland, Tenn.) came up with a 6-3 win while senior
Alexandria Braithwaite (Oakville Ontario, Canada) and freshman
Westlyn Morris (Inman, S.C.) picked up a 6-4 win at court three.
In singles, two of the Trojans' three wins went to three sets.
Braithwaite led the way with 6-4, 6-1 wins at the No. 1 spot.Â
Junior
Elena Ronconi (Salta, Argentina) battled to a three set victory at court three going 1-6, 7-5, 6-4.
Collins got a three set win of her own by scores of 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 at the No. 4 spot.
Sompayrac was nearly finished with a three set battle at court two before the match was called.
The Trojans' Semifinal matchup against Catawba will take place at the Palmetto Tennis Center in Sumter, S.C.
