Box Score ANDERSON, S.C. -- The Trojans dropped a tight 4-2 match against Newberry College on Wednesday afternoon to begin their two-match home week. Anderson moves to 14-5 overall and 5-4 in the SAC with the loss.
Anderson dropped the doubles point on a tiebreak match that went to Newberry at court three as junior
Elena Ronconi (Salta, Argentina) and freshman
Westlyn Morris (Inman, S.C.) fell 7-5. Junior
Gigi Sompayrac (Knoxville, Tenn.) and sophomore
Ensley Collins (Cleveland, Tenn.) earned a 6-4 win at court two to force the point to come down to court three.
The Trojans earned two points in singles. Senior
Alexandria Braithwaite (Oakville Ontario, Canada) came up with a gritty 7-5 win in set one and then a 6-1 win in set two to take the win at the No. 1 position.
At the No. 4 position, Collins came up with 6-1 and 6-2 wins.
At court two, Sompayrac went to three sets with her opponent but fell 6-1, 1-6, 3-6.
Ronconi went to three sets at court three by scores of 1-6, 6-3, 2-6.
Morris also went to three sets at court six, battling to a 6-7 tiebreak loss in set one before earning a 6-1 win in set two. She was up 3-2 when the match was called.
Anderson turns their attention to Friday when they host UVA Wise at 1 p.m. to honor
Alexandria Braithwaite and
Grace Weaver for Senior Day.
