JEFFERSON CITY, TENN. – Anderson University Softball (20-6, 6-2 SAC) split it's doubleheader against nationally ranked No. 24 Carson-Newman (23-8, 4-4 SAC) on the road Saturday afternoon, securing a close 4-3 victory in game one before dropping 5-7 in the nightcap.
The Trojans opened game one scoring three runs while holding the Eagles scoreless until the bottom of the fourth. Senior
Carson Hobbs (Nicholson, Ga.) opened the scoring for Anderson in the top of the first with a double to left center for a single RBI before junior
Kadence Barrick (Phenix City, Ala.) homered to left field and rounded the bases for two more runs. Senior Lauren Brakovek (Farragut, Tenn.) singled to center field for the Trojans final run in the top of the third. After holding Carson-Newman scoreless in the first four innings, the Eagles notched three runs to close the gap.
In the circle for the Black and Gold, senior
Carson Hobbs notched her sixth victory on the mound after pitching six innings, recording two strikeouts. Freshman
Kora Kilgore (Smithville, Tenn.) tallied the third save on the mound, pitching the final inning for the Trojan victory.
The nightcap was a close battle between the two teams. Carson-Newman added the first run to the board in the bottom of the first before Anderson responded with a double to left center by sophomore
Chloe Maness (Belton, S.C>), knocking in a run. The Eagles tallied two more in the third to take the lead. Brakovec brought in another run after a single up the middle before Carson-Newman delivered another run. Down by two in the top of the sixth, Maness and freshman
Kara Davis (Duncan, S.C.) posted a single to plate two more Trojans, evening the score with one inning remaining. The Eagles recorded the final run of the game early in the seventh to split the doubleheader.
Maness went 2-for-3 at bat, recording a single hit and bringing in three runs. Pitching for the Trojans were senior

The Black and Gold return home for two back-to-back doubleheaders when they host SAC opponent Lincoln Memorial on Tuesday, March 24, followed by nonconference opponent USC Aiken on Wednesday, March 25. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
