ANDERSON, S.C. – The Anderson University (17-13, 5-13 SAC) baseball team dropped a pair of game in a Saturday doubleheader against Emory & Henry, dropping the opener 13-7 before falling 15-2 in the nightcap at Anderson Memorial Stadium.
Game One
Anderson struck first in the opening inning as Gray Wells (Chapin, S.C.) delivered an RBI single to score Brooks Mauro (Clemson, S.C.), who reached earlier in the frame. The Trojans added another run in the second inning when Ben Bullard (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) singled home Zach Stover (Powdersville, S.C.) to take a 2-1 lead.
Emory & Henry responded with a four-run second inning and continued to build its lead with two runs in the sixth and a four-run seventh inning. Anderson answered in the bottom of the seventh as Mauro connected on a two-run home run to left-center, scoring Braeden Harrison (Spartanburg, S.C.) and cutting the deficit to 10-5.
The Trojans continued to battle late, plating two runs in the ninth inning. Harrison scored on a balk before Wells added an RBI groundout to bring home Mauro, but Anderson could not complete the comeback.
Wells led the offense with three hits and two RBIs, while Mauro finished 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs. Bullard added three hits and an RBI, and Harrison scored twice.
Game Two
Emory & Henry carried its momentum into the second game, using a seven-run fifth inning to break open a close contest on the way to a 15-2 victory.
Anderson managed just four hits in the contest but found some success late. In the sixth inning, Harrison doubled and later scored on a groundout by Wells. Mauro followed with a double and came home on a sacrifice fly from Myles Denton (Brentwood, Tenn.) to account for both Trojan runs.
Harrison led Anderson at the plate in game two, going 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored, while Mauro added a double and scored once.
The Trojans return to action on Tuesday, March 24 at 4:00 p.m. as they welcome in the Warriors of Southern Wesleyan for a non-conference matchup.
