Trojans Notch 10-Straight Victories at Home, Sweep Tusculum in Doubleheader

ANDERSON, S.C. – Anderson University Softball (17-5, 3-1 SAC) remains unbeaten at home after securing a set of wins, 9-1 and 4-1, against conference opponent Tusculum (10-12, 1-3) Saturday afternoon.

"I can't say enough good things about this team today!" said head coach Kelly Roberts. "Our pitchers attacked the zone and kept their hitters off balance, and offensively we came through with some really big, timely hits."

The Pioneers scored their lone run in the top of the first on a fielder's choice before sophomore Chaney Crosby (Six Mile, S.C.) blasted a double to left field, putting Anderson on the board in the bottom of the second. In the fourth, senior Carson Hobbs (Nicholson, Ga.) doubled to right center to drive in three more runs for the Trojans. At the bottom of the fifth, senior Katie Morris (Valley, Ala.) singled through the left side to send another Trojan across the plate, followed by a walk for freshman Jollie Davis (Anderson, S.C.) to score before junior Kadence Barrick (Phenix City, Ala.) singled down the left line, capping the scoring early in game one.

At bat, senior Jenna Davis (Anderson, S.C.) went 2-for-2 with two runs while Hobbs led the Trojans with four RBI going 2-for-3 at bat. In the circle for the Trojans, Morris notched her eighth victory on the season, pitching all five innings, tallying seven strikeouts and recording only four hits and one run for a 1.40 ERA.

The nightcap had a similar start with the Pioneers scoring early in the top of the first from a single up the middle. The Trojans responded in the bottom of the second when freshman Bella Harbour (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) rounded home. In the fourth, sophomore Chloe Maness (Belton, S.C.) singled up the middle, advancing to second on the pass to drive in two more Trojans. Crosby rounded out the scoring, blasting a double to left center for Anderson's fourth and final run.

Bella Harbour and Jenna Davis each went 2-for-3 at bat with Maness bringing in two runs to lead the Trojans in RBI. Securing the win for the Black and Gold from the circle and tallying her fifth victory was senior Carson Hobbs. Pitching 5.1 innings, she tallied six strikeouts while only allowing four hits and one run for a 1.31 ERA. Freshman Kora Kilgore (Smithville, Tenn.) notched a save from the mound, pitching 1.2 innings and posting three strikeouts, allowing one hit and no runs for the Pioneers.

"What I loved most was our energy on the bases – we were aggressive, we ran the bases really well, and we put pressure on them all day." added Roberts. "When we combine that kind of pitching, timely offense and great base running we're a really tough team to beat."

The Black and Gold continue their series of home contests when they host conference opponent Newberry in a doubleheader on Wednesday, March 10. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
