ANDERSON, S.C. – Anderson University Women's Soccer (6-3-1, 3-1-1 SAC) suffered its first home loss of the season Saturday evening, falling 2-1 to conference opponent Tusculum (2-8, 2-3 SAC).
The Trojans struggled to find their footing offensively throughout the opening half of Saturday's contest, managing just four shots as Tusculum looked to establish control. The Pioneers broke through late in the opening frame, taking a 1-0 edge heading into halftime. Tusculum carried its momentum into the final half, doubling their advantage after a goal in the 53rd minute.
Refusing to go quietly, Anderson found a late spark with seven seconds left on the board. Senior
Kaitlyn Gregory (Cincinnati, Ohio) sent a corner kick toward the box that took an unexpected path into the back of the net, cutting Anderson's deficit to 2-1 after the full time.
Despite Anderson leading the match with 11 shots to Tusculums' five, the Pioneers dominated the scoresheet, capitalizing on their opportunities to score twice on just three shots on just three shots on target.
Anderson returns to the road for more South Atlantic Conference play when they travel to Newberry on Wednesday, Oct. 7. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
