GREENEVILLE, TENN. – Anderson volleyball (22-3, 16-1 SAC) returned to the road for the first time in three weeks, earning a four-set victory over Tusculum (13-7, 10-6 SAC) on Friday night. After dropping the opening set, the Trojans rallied to defeat the Pioneers, 20-25, 25-18, 25-17, 25-16.
Anderson fell 20-25 in the opening set before responding with a 25-18 win in the second. The Trojans carried that momentum into the third set, using multiple scoring runs to secure a 25-17 victory. Anderson closed out the match with a 25-16 win in the fourth set to claim the road win.
Senior Emily Campbell (Statesville, N.C.) led the Trojans with 16 kills, while seniors Ava Reeves (Lexington, S.C.) and Karley Black (Leander, Texas), along with sophomore Mikaylah Hedlund (Fountain Inn, S.C.), each recorded 10 kills. Junior Maura Kindel (Easley, S.C.) added nine kills while hitting .643.
Senior Ellie Nieporte (Boca Raton, Fla.) dished out 50 assists and recorded two block assists. Sophomore Jamie Juhnevicz (Taylors, S.C.) led the team with 23 digs, while Hedlund recorded a double-double with 10 kills and 13 digs. Campbell added two solo blocks.
"Our offense started off on a good note in set one, but our defense was slow to respond," said head coach Todd Hay. "However, once our service pressure and our digging began to get into gear, we were able to find a better match rhythm and make some key point runs in sets 2-4. Tusculum is a very difficult place to win so we are very pleased with this outcome."
The Trojans remain on the road, traveling to Hartsville, S.C., on Tuesday, Oct. 27, to face Coker University at 6 p.m.
