ANDERSON, S.C. – Anderson University Men's Basketball (13-0, 7-0 SAC) surges past conference opponent Coker (1-12, 0-7 SAC) in an 88-55 victory at home on Wednesday evening to extend the programs win streak to 13.
"Really proud of our effort tonight." said head coach
Jimmie Williams. "Our guys were out there playing with joy and purpose together. Nothing makes me prouder. Competitive juices and unselfishness top to bottom."
The Trojans established dominance with an early lead in just the second minute of the game before pushing their lead to a game-high 40 points with four minutes left in the final half. The Cobras played with energy and determination, even as the Black and Gold maintained control of the game.
Five Trojans recorded double digits on the floor with freshman
Rashawn Inglemon (Sacramento, Calif.) leading the pack contributing 22 points to the team's total while also picking up two rebounds. Junior
Dallas Jones (Gainesville, Fla.) notched 18 points while going 3-for-4 from behind the arc and 3-for-4 from behind the line. Senior
Kadyn Dawkins (Greensboro, N.C.) followed closely behind grabbing four boards with 14 points added to the final score.
"Really proud of
Dallas Jones tonight." added Williams. "We've always said we have starters coming off the bench and when we get into our rotation, nothing dips or stagnates. Dallas was a huge B12 shot of energy from the second he hit the floor tonight."
Rounding out double-digit scoring for Anderson was sophomore
Caleb McAbee (Saint Johns, Fla.) and junior
Osmar Garcia-Araujo (Sugar Hill, Ga.) adding 13 and 14 points respectively while each notching seven boards and three assists. Garcia-Araujo shot 83.3% from the floor and 75% from the free-throw line.
Junior
AJ Wright Jr. (Clearwater, Fla.) contributed to the team both offensively and defensively with seven assists and six rebounds added to Anderson's final numbers. Senior Malachai Reeves (Lexington, S.C.) notched four boards and denied Coker with two blocks on the game.
"Our defense and our depth continue to impact winning. I'm so blessed to coach a team that could care less about statistics and that celebrate each other's successes vigorously. Excited to get back to work tomorrow. I love this team."
The Black and Gold continue their series of home games on Saturday, Jan. 10 when they host fellow SAC opponent Tusculum. Tipp-off is slated for 4 p.m.
