ANDERSON, S.C. – The Anderson University Men's Basketball program extends their win streak to 15 after defeating conference opponent Catawba in a 97-74 victory at home Wednesday night.
"I've been a part of some packed houses in Abney over the last three and a half years. Tonight was the loudest we've seen it." said head coach
Jimmie Williams. "When Dallas got that put back dunk, I thought the roof was going to blow off."
The Trojans took an initial lead early in the first half before the Catawba Indians found their momentum, putting up eight points to Anderson's one. The Black and Gold evened the scoring just five minutes into the first half before surging past Catawba for their greatest lead of 25 with less than a minute left in the game. It was a physical contest on both sides of the floor, but the Trojans ultimately retained control.
"Really proud of our effort especially on the glass." added Williams. "Catawba leads the country in offensive rebound rate. They go get 42% of their misses. Obviously knowing that we knew we had to answer the bell on the glass, and we did in a big way."
Five Trojans tallied double digits on the board with freshman
Rashawn Inglemon (Sacramento, Calif.) putting up 24 points to lead the Black and Gold. Inglemon also added six rebounds and three steals to help lead the Trojan defense, while shooting 75.0% from deep, 61.5% from the floor and 100% from the charity line. Senior
AJ Wright Jr. (Clearwater, Fla.) played an instrumental role in the Black and Gold's offense and defense, posting 18 points, six rebounds, four assists, five steals and shooting 75% from the line.
Junior
Osmar Garcia-Araujo (Sugar Hill, Ga.) notched two steals and put up 17 points while going 7-for-11 from the free throw line. He also led the Trojans with eight total rebounds on the contest. Redshirt-senior
Kadyn Dawkins (Greensboro, N.C.) added 17 points on the game with two rebounds, two assists while shooting 58.3% from the floor and 60.0% from behind the arc.
Sophomore
Sentinel Moore (Oklahoma City, Okla.) rounded out Anderson's double-digit scoring with 12 points added to the team's total while notching 5 rebounds and three blocks to aid the Trojan's defense. He also shot 57.1% from the field and 100% from the line.
"Proud of our bench, especially Dallas, Sentinel, and Caleb who played big minutes for us. AJ plays the game with so much determination and has as much competitiveness as anyone I've coached. He left his heart out there tonight. KD and Rashawn were electric tonight, especially in transition."
Anderson topped Catawba in all major statistical categories shooting 53.3% from the floor, 57.9% from three, 73.3% from the foul line. The Trojan's excelled defensively, posting 37 rebounds to Catawba's 32, four blocks and 13 steals leading to 20 points off turnovers.
"Very proud of our growth this week. This team keeps getting better and is far from satisfied. Excited to get back to it tomorrow. I love this team."
The Black and Gold hit the road on Saturday, Jan. 17 when they take the trip to UVA Wise to begin their two-game road series. Tipp-off is slated for 4 p.m.
