LAKELAND, Fla. -- The Trojans earned their first win of the season over Saint Leo 3-1 (25-11, 25-22, 23-25, 25-17) in their last game of the Jet's Pizza FSC Volleyball Classic. Anderson finished yesterday 0-2 after two tight five set losses but bounced back over the Lions to come back from the weekend 1-2.
"I felt good about our demeanor today after a couple of tough losses yesterday," head coach
Todd Hay said. "We continue to see small steps forward with each set and hopefully our physical and mental mistakes will decline. There's a lot of work to be done but I do feel we are headed in the right direction."
The Trojans dominated with only three tie scores and one lead change, all coming in the third set. They came up with their best hitting percentage yet in the first set, swinging .438 but finished at a .186. They had 8.0 blocks as a team.
Freshman
Mikaylah Hedlund (Fountain Inn, S.C.) led the Trojans with 12 kills after putting down 12 and 11Â in the two matches yesterday. The newcomer limited her errors from 10 and seven yesterday to zero today for a .480 hitting percentage. She added an ace and 15 digs.
Sophomore
Mia Elder (Leland, N.C.) had another good day with 10 kills and two blocks. Junior
Ava Reeves (Lexington, S.C.) had nine kills and three blocks junior
Emily Campbell (Statesville, N.C.) added eight kills and three blocks.Â

Mia Bennett (Boiling Springs, S.C.) dished out a career-high 21 assists on 52 attempts and added 11 digs. Junior
Ellie Nieporte (Boca Raton, Fla.) aded 18 assists.Â
Freshman
Jamie Juhnevicz (Taylors, S.C.) led the defense with 16 digs, six assists and three service aces.

Kaydan Flowers (Statesville, N.C.) made her collegiate debut and added two kills and one block. Freshman
Kaleigh Garren (Anderson, S.C.) also saw the floor for the first time.
The Trojans head to the Valdosta State University Fall Tournament next weekend when they take on Shorter University on Friday, Sept. 12 at 2 PM, Georgia College on Friday at 7 PM and Palm Beach Atlantic University on Saturday at 2 PM.
