Braithwaite, Sompayrac Suffer Tiebreak Losses at ITA Regional

SUMTER, S.C. -- Senior Alexandria Braithwaite (Oakville Ontario, Canada) and junior Gigi Sompayrac (Knoxville, Tenn.) represented Anderson at the ITA Southeast Men's and Women's Regional Championships on Friday at the Palmetto Tennis Center in Sumter. The Trojans battled but came up short in their doubles and singles matches.

In doubles, the pair competed against Nikoline Gullacksen and Laura Pesickova from Columbus State University in the round of 32, but fell 8-2 to the Cougars.

In singles, Sompayrac took a 6-3 win in the opening set but fell 4-6 in the second. The tiebreak went to Tawana Senah of Emmanuel College by a narrow 8-10 scoreline.

Braithwaite opened her singles match against Hanna Vasconez of Erskine College with a 6-0 clean sheet before falling 5-7 in a second set battle. The tiebreak was tight as well but went to Erskine 7-10.

The full Trojan team is back in action this Saturday, Oct. 4th when they head to Emmanuel University for a 2 p.m. match.
