WACO, Texas -- In just their second season of competition, the Anderson University football team is starting to make waves on the national stage as they made their first appearance in the receiving votes section of the AFCA Coaches Poll released by the organization this week.
Anderson currently sits at 3-0 on the season and has only allowed 14 total points to be scored against them all season, ranking them fourth in the country in scoring defense and leading the South Atlantic Conference. Additionally, the Trojans rank third in total defense, allowing on average just 167.7 yards a game, third in passing defense with just 86 yards allowed a game and fourth in punt return defense, with opponents losing on average a yard per game. The Black and Gold are also the fourth least penalized team in the country, average just 3.67 penalties per game.

Elijah Swett (Matthews, N.C.) currently ranks atop the country with his perfect 100% field goal percentage. Senior
Tyler Wesley (St. Cloud, Fla.) sits eighth in the country in passing touchdowns with seven on the year. Wesley also ranks in the top-10 in points responsible for, tallying 54 points on the season so far.
Anderson hits the road to the Old North State as they take on the Lions of Mars Hill University in a 1:00 p.m. showdown.Â
