Volleyball Drops Tight Match to Palm Beach Atlantic 3-1

VALDOSTA, Ga. -- The Trojans fell to Palm Beach Atlantic 3-1 (24-26, 25-27, 25-22, 23-25) on Saturday in their final game of the Valdosta State Fall Tournament after going 2-0 on Friday. PBA moves to 7-1 with the win while the Trojans move to 3-3.

"We competed well from an effort standpoint but lack execution from time to time in critical moments," head coach Todd Hay said. "As we discussed after the match, a lot of what caused us to drop this match does not appear on the stat sheet. Communication, floor positioning, serve location, set choice/location, and hitting decisions all contribute to missed opportunities or leaked points. I'm encouraged with our offensive numbers but need to clean up some of those fundamentals and nuances of sport that contribute to winning."

The Trojans lost the three sets by just two points each, battling through seven lead changes and 32 tie scores, including 14 in the second set. Anderson had a successful day on defense with a season-best 10.0 blocks and 96 digs. The offense hit at a .121 hitting percentage with three Trojans in double digits.

Freshman Mikaylah Hedlund (Fountain Inn, S.C.) led the offense and defense, tying her career-high from yesterday with 15 kills and had 19 digs. She tacked on two solo blocks.

Junior Ava Reeves (Lexington, S.C.) dropped 12 kills and junior Emily Campbell (Statesville, N.C.) followed up with 11 and added 4.0 blocks.

Freshman Kaydan Flowers (Statesville, N.C.) had a career-high five kills and 2.0 total blocks.

Junior Ellie Nieporte (Boca Raton, Fla.) and sophomore Mia Bennett (Boiling Springs, S.C.) dished out 23 and 21 assists and each picked up 12 digs.

The Trojans stay on the road when they open South Atlantic Conference play on Tuesday, Sept. 16 at Lenoir Rhyne University.
