VEGAS BOUND! No. 1 Trojans Mount Comeback to Punch Ticket to Nationals

GAINESVILLE, Ga. -- Sitting in ninth place after the second round of action, the nationally No. 1 ranked Anderson University women's golf team posted the second best round of the entire tournament at one-over to jump six spots up the leader board and secure a third place finish and a trip to the NCAA Division II National Championships on Wednesday, May 7.

"Do you believe in miracles?!?!," commented Director of Golf Denton Moore. "I don't even know what to say. This group just refuses to give up, and they never gave in. This was the most insane special comeback I have ever been a part of. Down 10 shots with six holes to play....and advance? I just don't have words."

The Trojans were able to play those final six holes three-under as a team that shot them up the leader board and right into the third spot. Flagler took home the title while Nova Southeastern took the second place spot. Wingate was the fourth team to punch their ticket to nationals after defeating Tampa and North Georgia in a two-hole playoff.

Senior Kennedy McGaha (Honea Path, S.C.) finished the tournament in fifth-place individually, moving up nine spots thanks to her two-under final round. Junior Aly Francis (Stockbridge, Ga.) took home an 18th place finish, with the biggest leap up the leader board for the Trojans in the final round, jumping up 31 places on the back of a three-under round.

"KMac was unbelievable. Top-5 in the strongest field in Division II women's golf. She was incredible this week, and solidified herself as the GOAT of Anderson University golf. Aly was incredible the last two rounds. She proved why she deserves to be an All-American this year."

Senior Zoey Iglesias (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) and junior Paige Paolucci (Blythewood, S.C.) each rounded out the tournament in a tie for 43rd. Junior Kennedy Gooding jumped 15 placed up the leader board in the last round as well, to help solidify the Trojans third-place finish.

"Zoey was rock solid all week. She stayed so steady and was there for us in that final round in the most critical moments. Paige was unbelievable in the first and second round. She was right there in the third as well. KG had maybe the worst round of her career in round one, and she did what All-Americans are supposed to do, she flushed it and came back huge the next two rounds. Her final round was ultra special for her in crunch time."

"This crew is so special, I am so proud of the, and I can't wait to go to Vegas with them next week and chase after the Natty! Love this team, Go Trojans!"
