ANDERSON, S.C. -- The Trojans' historic season came to an end on Wednesday afternoon in the opening game of the NCAA DII Men's Lacrosse National Championships, with the Black and Gold falling 16-10 to the Saints of Maryville.
The three-seeded No. 7 Trojans welcomed the six-seeded No. 9 Saints to Spero Financial Field on Wednesday afternoon for the program's first-ever national tournament game. The Trojans entered the match-up 13-4 on the season and 9-1 in South Atlantic Conference play, while the Saints were 12-4 overall and 4-1 in Great Lakes Valley Conference contests.
Anderson got on the board first with Ryan Bitterman (Alpharetta, Ga.) tucking one away in the opening minute of play. A six-goal run from the Saints would soon follow, however, and prove to be a deficit too large for the home team to overcome. The Saints took a 7-2 advantage into halftime.
The third quarter saw the visitors reach a lead as great as 11-3, before Anderson found three-straight from the sticks of Bitterman, Radyn Badraun (Mission Viejo, Calif.) and Brayden Bushnoe (Myrtle Beach, S.C.).
Badraun led the team with four goals on the afternoon, while Bitterman and Bushnoe each tallied a brace. Cole Sparks (West Islip, N.Y.) and Sammy Lewis (Maple Grove, Minn.) also scored for the Trojans, but the offensive efforts fell short of that of the Saints.
Maryville outshot Anderson 56 to 32, including a 35 to 7 advantage in the first half. Of those shots, 31 of Maryville's came on frame, compared to Anderson's 19.
Trojan goalie Adin Laughlin (Wooster, Ohio) recorded 15 saves in the game, compared to Maryville's nine, and the Trojans won 18 of 29 faceoffs to the Saints' 11.
Despite the loss, the 2025 season was record-breaking for the Trojans and now stands as the winningest in school history.
