SUMTER, S.C. – Anderson women's tennis (18-7, 6-6 SAC) rounded out their regular season with a 6-1 win over USC Sumter (3-1) on Tuesday at the Palmetto Tennis Center.
In the doubles portion of play, AU quickly earned the first point of the match behind dominant victories on all courts. The Trojans dropped just 3 games across the matches, including a 6-0 win at No. 1 from Gigi Sompayrac and Grace Weaver.
Armed with a 1-0 lead, the Black and Gold continued their momentum. Sompayrac breezed to a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 3 singles for the first point, with Ensley Collins and Ariana Daduica following to clinch the match.
Weaver and Mara Opre were the next pair of Trojans off of the court, adding dominant singles wins to make the score 6-0 AU. In a back-and-forth match that was decided in a 3rd set, the Fire Ants claimed the final point of the day on court 1.
UP NEXT
The 7th-seeded Trojans stay in Sumter for the SAC Tournament, where they'll take on No. 2 seed Wingate (15-4, 11-1 SAC) at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday. In the only meeting between the teams this season, the Bulldogs were victorious 4-3.
