MONROE, N.C. – No. 47 Anderson women's tennis (12-4, 2-3 SAC) secured the doubles point and competed in several tight singles matches, but was bested 4-3 by No. 39 Wingate (8-2, 4-0 SAC) on Saturday afternoon.

AU started off strong, winning the doubles point for the third straight match. Wingate nabbed a 6-2 victory at the top spot, but the Trojans responded with an identical 6-2 win from Mara Opre and Elena Ronconi at No. 3. With the opening point coming down to court two, the set was sent to a tiebreak. Though the Bulldogs held a match point at 6-5 in the tiebreak, AU's team of Valentina Borda and Alexandria Braithwaite showed resilience, taking the next three points to secure the match.

In singles, Braithwaite continued her strong play with a 6-3, 6-4 win at the No. 4 spot. Wingate rallied to erase the Trojans' lead, though, tying up the score with straight-set victories at No. 2 and No. 3.

Trojan senior Borda put the Trojans just a point from victory with a back-and-forth 6-2, 1-6, 6-2 win at the No. 1 position. Unfortunately for AU, Wingate was able to respond with tight three-set wins at both No. 5 and No. 6, clinching the dual match on their home court.

AU takes a week off for spring break, but gets back on the court with a trip to Mars Hill (0-2, 0-1 SAC) on Saturday, March 22 at 11:00 a.m. at the Hart Tennis Complex.
