MARS HILL, N.C. – Anderson women's tennis (14-4, 3-3 SAC) swept their annual matchup with SAC rival Mars Hill (0-8, 0-5 SAC) by a 4-0 score on Saturday morning. The win marked their 15th straight over the Lions, and 11th shutout of the 2024-25 campaign.
"I'm really proud of the girls for going out there and getting it done," AU Assistant Coach Kate Drosieko said after the win. "11 shutouts in one season is historic and has prepared us to continue to do well in the rest of conference play. I'm excited to see them continue to push towards their goals and attain them!"
In doubles, the Trojans began play by grabbing the opening point of the match with wins at No. 2 and 3. Mara Opre and Elena Ronconi were first off the court, winning 6-0 on court 3. Valentina Borda and Alexandria Braithwaite rallied to win the last three games and their set, 6-3. Gigi Sompayrac and Grace Weaver were in control, leading 5-2 when play was stopped.
With the doubles point behind them, AU continued the momentum into singles play. Ensley Collins and Ronconi posted identical 6-0, 6-0 victories at the No. 6 and 5 spots, respectively. Braithwaite followed with a 6-1, 6-2 win on court 3, sealing the win for the Trojans.
With the win secured, Borda, Sompayrac, and Opre each held one-set leads and were ahead in their second sets when play was stopped. These matches were not completed.
