ANDERSON, S.C. – Anderson women's tennis (13-4, 2-3 SAC) pitched a shutout at the Trojan Tennis Complex on Friday afternoon, winning 7-0 over the visiting Indiana University Southeast Grenadiers (4-5). The win was AU's 10th shutout of the season.
"The girls played well today," AU Head Coach Joey Eskridge said after the win. "It was great to get a match in after spring break, before we get into conference play again with Mars Hill on Saturday. I'm proud of the girls and guys. The guys did well too. They came out, took care of business, and got the rust knocked off. Hopefully we'll get going for the rest of our conference season, and the rest of the spring. Go Trojans!"
AU began the match on the right foot, sweeping all three doubles matches in dominant fashion. Mara Opre and Elena Ronconi struck first for a 6-0 shutout at No. 3, before Valentina Borda and Alexandria Braithwaite did the same at No. 2. Gigi Sompayrac and Grace Weaver completed the sweep with a 6-1 win at the No. 1 spot.
The Trojans continued their good form on the singles court. Of the 12 sets played across all six courts, AU won nine of them by 6-0 scores. Borda, Sompayrac, Opre, and Ensley Collins each won their court without dropping a single game at all.
UP NEXT
AU has a short turnaround, hitting the road for an 11:00 a.m. matchup with the Mars Hill Lions (0-5, 0-3 SAC) on Saturday. Last season, the Trojans were victorious 6-1 over the Lions in Anderson.
