ANDERSON, S.C. — Anderson University (16-14, 2-6 SAC) and Carson-Newman (18-10, 5-3 SAC) each claimed a victory in a South Atlantic Conference softball doubleheader Friday afternoon at the AU Softball Complex, with the Eagles securing a 3-1 win in Game 1 before the Trojans responded with an 11-0 run-rule victory in Game 2.
Carson-Newman took the opener behind a solid performance from Syerra Rogers (8-3), who tossed a complete game, allowing just one unearned run on four hits while striking out five. Sarah DePaola (1-3) took the loss, surrendering two earned runs on seven hits over four innings.
The Trojans bounced back in the second game, erupting for 11 runs over the final two innings en route to a five-inning shutout. Senior pitcher Morris (8-6) allowed just two hits while striking out six in a complete-game effort.
Anderson's offense broke through in the third inning with five runs before adding six more in the fourth. Sophomore
Paige Vickery led the way, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, including a two-run double. Carson-Newman managed just two hits off Morris, while starter Lorelei Spradlin (5-4) took the loss after allowing five runs on five hits in 2.1 innings.
Anderson returns to action when it travels to SAC member Lincoln Memorial. First pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 1pm.
