ANDERSON, S.C. – Anderson women's tennis (9-1) swept a doubleheader on Saturday against the USC Sumter Fire Ants (1-1) and Piedmont College Lions (3-1) at the Trojan Tennis Complex by 7-0 scores.

The pair of wins helped the team rebound from Sunday's 5-2 loss at No. 9 Columbus State. It also marked the eighth sweep out of the nine wins AU has recorded. With the second win, AU Head Coach Joey Eskridge won his 200th match over his 17 seasons leading the women's program.

"The girls fought hard today and got two solid wins," Eskridge said. "It's never easy to play matches back-to-back but we needed it to prepare for the upcoming months of conference play! Go Trojans!"

In the first match, the Trojans won all three doubles matches, dropping just three games between the courts. Sophomore Elena Ronconi and freshman Ensley Collins picked up a dominant 6-0 win at No. 3, before a pair of wins at the other two spots.

In singles, AU took all six courts in straight sets. Each match included one set that AU won by a 6-0 score.

Following a short break for rest, the Trojans took on the Piedmont College Lions in the second match of their day.

The Black and Gold won another doubles point to begin the match, blanking the Lions at the top two positions, from Gigi Sompayrac and Alexandria Braithwaite, and Valentina Borda and Mara Opre, respectively.

To round out play for the day, AU earned six more wins on the singles court. First-year Trojans Opre, Jadyn Koenes, and Taylor Hendrick each secured dominant victories in straight sets.

The Trojans stay at home for their final match before SAC play begins. AU and Erskine will do battle on Saturday, February 15th at 1:00 p.m. at the Trojan Tennis Complex.
