Diamond Shines In Home Victory Over Limestone; 70-61

ANDERSON, S.C. – Senior Diamond McDowell recorded her 10th double-double of the season scoring a game-high 23 points and ripping down a season high 22 rebounds to help Anderson (14-9, 10-7 SAC) avenge an earlier loss to Limestone (12-9, 8-9 SAC) defeating the Saints, 70-61, on Wednesday evening at the Abney Athletic Center.

McDowell recently became only the second Trojan to amass at least 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds. With tonight's performance the native of Asheboro, N.C. eclipsed women's basketball standout Alexy Mollenhauer's (2020) who set the mark at 1,017 career rebounds.

"Congratulations to Diamond on breaking the AU All-Time record for rebounds and what a way to do it," exclaimed Barbaree. "22 rebounds was huge!"

The Trojans struggled early to find the bottom of the net falling behind by as many as 13 points in the first quarter of action. The Black and Gold remained patient finding its rhythm in the second period to claim a two-point lead heading into the half, 33-31.

"After we couldn't buy a basket in the beginning, I was so proud how we kept our head up," explained head coach Jonathon Barbaree. "It would have been easy to get frustrated because it felt like a lid was on the basket."

"We did a good job of turning our focus to defense and allowed the offense to find its way," added Barbaree.

The Trojans and Saints hung close in the third stanza with Anderson eventually shaking the Saints midway through the fourth quarter. AU pushed its lead to 12 twice before claiming the nine-point victory.

Freshman Zaynah Preston scored 15 points on 6-of-13 shooting including 2-of-4 behind the arc. Senior Zamiya Passmore netted 14 points while dishing out eight assists. Sophomore Kyla Cain helped McDowell clean the glass grabbing seven rebounds while chipping in seven points.

Limestone had two players reach double-figures with Kalisha Hill scoring a team-high 17 points. Reagan Kargo contributed 15 points for the Saints.

Anderson out rebounded Limestone 50-to-39 while forcing 18 turnovers.

The Black and Gold return to action on Saturday when they travel to SAC foe Catawba. Tip-off is slated for 2pm.
