ANDERSON, S.C. – Anderson softball (1-3) dropped a pair of games to nonconference opponent North Greenville (3-1) falling to the Trailblazers, 11-5 in game one and 13-5 in game two on Tuesday afternoon at the AU Softball.
Despite collecting 12 hits in game one, three costly errors and 15 hits by North Greenville helped the Trailblazers defeat the Trojans, 11-5.
Seniors
Maddie Carpenter and
Maggie Nauck each went 3-for-4 at the plate while sophomore
Paige Vickery batted 2-for-3. Nauck hit a double and her first home run of the season.
North Greenville jumped out early scoring seven runs over the first three innings of play. AU cut the lead in half after its at-bat in the bottom of the second, but failed to score again until one in the fourth and two in the seventh.
The Trailblazers stayed red hot in the second game recording 18 hits and touching the plate 13 times. NGU put up a five-spot in both the second and third innings with the Black and Gold matching the 5-run third inning to cut the lead to, 10-5. North Greenville tacked on three more runs in the fifth inning and held AU scoreless to end the game by run rule.
Junior
Carson Hobbs collected two hits while Carpenter and junior
Shelby Bandt went 1-for-2 for the Trojans. Sophomore
Paige Vickery hit her first home run of the season and 12th of her career.
Anderson takes its first road trip on Friday when it travels to nonconference opponent Clark Atlanta. First pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 12pm and 2 pm.
