COLUMBUS, GA. – Anderson women's tennis (7-1) suffered their first loss of the 2024-25 season on Sunday afternoon to the No. 9-ranked Columbus State Cougars (1-0) at the John W. Walden Tennis Center.
CSU won a tight doubles point to open play with victories at the No. 1 and 2 spots. Gigi Sompyriac and Elena Ronconi battled hard, but dropped their match by a 7-5 score. Valentina Borda and Alexandria Braithwaite were bested 6-3 in their matchup at No. 2. No match was played at the No. 3 position.
In singles action, AU notched their only points of the match at the No. 3 and 6 positions. Ensley Collins won by default at No. 6, before Sompyriac earned an impressive 6-1, 6-1 win for the Trojans' first point. Sompyrac's victory was the first win over a CSU player in program history. Columbus State responded with wins in the other four singles matches to bookend the day.
