WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The Trojans track and field teams wrapped up the regular season of the indoor campaign, competing at the JDL Last Chance Invitational. The Black and Gold recorded three event wins, 12 Top-5 finishes and 12 personal bests.
For the second meet in a row, senior sprinter Lacey Boozer (Simpsonville, S.C.) won the 400m dash. Two weeks ago, Boozer posted a 58.46s time to win the event. Today, she bested that time, running a 58.39 to win the race.
The men's 4x400 relay team also won their race. Comprised of senior Ben Molitor (Pelzer, S.C.), sophomore Cullen Ussery (Kershaw, S.C.) and freshmen Brayden Anderson (Yakima, Wash.) and William Wright (Sumter, S.C.), the Trojans boasted a time of 3:28 for a first-place finish.
In the women's pole vault competition, freshman Avery Marshall (York, S.C.) recorded a personal best, clearing the 3.35m bar to win the event. Marshall was followed by junior Kirsten Leonard (Hoover, Ala.) and sophomore Jorja Fox (Easley, S.C.), who finished 2nd at 3.30m and 5th at 3.00m respectively.
Joey Tindale (Rock Hill, S.C.) finished 2nd in the 800m with a time of 1:55, while Elliot Dotson (Greenville, S.C.) ran a 4:16 mile time to finish 4th in the race. One the women's side, Emma Whitaker (Inman, S.C.) finished 5th in the 800m with a time of 2:22, followed by Molly Hanlon (Cumming, Ga.) who ran 2:28 for a personal record.
Also on the track, Abby Kwasny (Winston-Salem, N.C.) and Ally Macurda (Charlotte, N.C.) each recorded personal best marks in the 60m hurdles, running for 9.57s and 10.02s respectively. On the men's side, Jordan Gross also bested his PR time in the 60m hurdles, finishing with a time of 9.13s.
Caroline Irvin (Easley, S.C.) ran a personal best 3000m at 11:15, while Ethan Linder (Spartanburg, S.C.) recorded a 54.44s 400m for a PR and Johnny McCoy (Easley, S.C.) boasted a 24.65 PR time in the 200m.
In the field events, Sarah Wimpee finished 2nd in the weight throw with a PR mark of 15.29m, while Maggie Long PR'd in the long jump with a 9.14m mark, finishing 6th. Georgia Piper (Dacula, Ga.) finished 3rd in the high jump with a mark of 1.50m.
Tyler Farris (Dacula, Ga.) and Lambdin Hardy (Commerce, Ga.) tied for 4th in the pole vault, each recording 4.35m marks. Chase Brightharp (Trenton, S.C.) competed in two events at the meet and posted two personal records. He finished 6th in the weight throw with a 12.66m mark and 11th in the shot put with a 12.63m mark.
Next weekend, the Trojans travel back to the JDL Fast Track for the South Atlantic Conference Indoor Championships. The meet will span Saturday (March 1) and Sunday (March 2).
