Trojans Bounce Back Witih 8-5 Win Over Limestone

GAFFNEY, S.C. -- The Anderson University (4-2) baseball team was able to avenge their last loss to Limestone on Friday by turning the tides and taking the 8-5 decision over the Saints on the road on Monday, February 10.

The Trojans got help from everyone in the lineup as all nine starters were able to record a hit in the contest while graduate Kyle Caccamise (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) was the lone member of the lineup to post a pair of hits. He and sophomore Carson Molinaroli (Summerville, S.C.) were each able to add a pair of RBIs to the scoreline, with three other Trojans chipping in the stat on the day.

The bullpen was strong on the day for the Black and Gold, despite getting caught in many jams, the pitching itself was solid throughout the day, allowing just one earned run in the contest. A pair of Bob Jones transfers got the decisions on the day for the Trojans as graduate Joshua Legnard (Moncks Corner, S.C.) picked up the win in his two innings of work while freshman Charlie Sauls (Estill, S.C.) rounded out the contest with a save, putting Limestone down in order with the bases juiced in the ninth, including a pair of strikeouts.

Limestone jumped out to a two-run lead in the bottom of the second and continued to hold the Trojans off the board until the fifth inning when Caccamise recorded his two RBIs on a single blasted up the middle of the infield to tie up the contest at 2. The Saints added a run to their total in the bottom of the frame to retake the 3-2 advantage.

That wouldn't last long as the Trojans exploded in the top of the sixth inning with five runs of their own. A double, single and sacrifice fly scored the first three runs of the frame for the Trojans while Molinaroli recorded his two RBIs of the contest with a single that brought around a pair of runs and gave the Trojans the 7-3 advantage. Limestone was able to scratch across a run in the seventh, and each side added a single run in the final frame, but with the bases loaded in the ninth Sauls was able to mow down the next three batters to secure the 8-5 win for the Trojans.

The Black and Gold return to action this weekend, February 14-15 as they make the trip to Salisbury, N.C. to take on the Catawba Indians in their first SAC series of the season.
