ANDERSON, S.C. – Anderson University Softball opened its 2025 season with a split dropping game one, 10-2 (5) and winning the nightcap, 9-5, versus nonconference opponent USC Beaufort on Saturday afternoon at the AU Softball Complex.
The Trojans fell behind early, 5-0, before scoring its first run of the season eventually falling, 10-2. The Sands Sharks limited the Black and Gold to three hits with junior
Shelby Bandt collecting a double and a single while senior
Maggie Nauck claiming the third, a triple.
Anderson bounced back in game two blasting 12 hits to produce nine runs. Junior
Jenna Davis went 3-for-5 with senior
Maddie Carpenter, junior
Lauren Brakovec and sophomore
Paige Vickery each recording two hits apiece.
USC Beaufort scored a single run in the first inning with AU taking the lead with two runs of its on in the bottom half of the inning. Anderson continued to build its lead and held off any rally by the Sand Sharks to win, 9-5.
In the circle, freshman Sara DePaola (1-0) went the distance scattering six hits to earn her first career win.
Anderson returns to action on Tuesday when it host nonconference opponent North Greenville. First-pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 12 pm.
