No. 20 Trojans Dominate Young Harris in Record-Breaking Season Opener, 27-4

ANDERSON, S.C. -- Anderson's men's lacrosse team opened their fifth season in style, with 19 Trojans getting on the score sheet in the 27-4 AU victory over Young Harris. The 23-goal win marks the largest margin of victory in Trojan lacrosse history.

"Great team win," said Head Coach Albert Mitchell. "It was great to see so many guys in the box score. We shared the ball really well and rode hard. Excited to see this team compete like this for the rest of the season."

Anderson's offense put up the fourth-most goals in a single game in program history with 27, along with the second-most assists at 20 and second-most total points with 47.

Junior attackman Ryan Bitterman (Alpharetta, Ga.) and senior midfielder Matt Morgenroth (Dacula, Ga.) led the scoring, each boasting hat tricks in the contest, while Radyn Badraun (Mission Viejo, Calif.) picked up the season's first goal and joined Will Hazelhurst (Greenville, S.C.), Brayden Bushnoe (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) and Nate Winpisinger (Baltimore, Md.), all of whom kicked off the season with a brace.

Redshirt-freshman Brodie Deutsch (Wilmington, N.C.) led the team with six points, notching one goal and five assists, while sophomore transfer Cole Sparks (West Islip, N.Y.) opened his Black and Gold career with one goal and four assists to combine for five points.

Anderson won 25 of 34 faceoffs in the matchup, as AJ Rush (Chantilly, Va.) went 11 for 12 from the spot, followed by Aiden Dixon (Forest Hill, Md.) who went 9 for 12. Freshman Lucas Craig (Litchfield, N.H.) also saw faceoff action, winning 5 of 10 in his collegiate debut.

The Trojans outscored the Mountain Lions 7-1 in the first quarter, before going into halftime with a 15-3 lead. Anderson then blanked Young Harris 8-0 in Q3 and closed out the game with a 4-1 fourth quarter to conclude the game 27-4.

No. 20 Anderson continues the season next Sunday (Feb. 9) at home against No. 8 Rollins. The game is set for 2 PM.
