Trojans Fall to Wasps on Opening Day, 10-4

ANDERSON, S.C. -- Opening the 2025 season a day later than originally planned, the Anderson University (0-1) baseball team fell on the unfavorable side of a 10-4 decision to Emory & Henry at Anderson Memorial Stadium on Saturday, February 1.

Sophomore Dom Bello (Orlando, Fla.) led the way for the Trojans on the afternoon, tallying the only multi-hit effort on the day for the Black and Gold. Graduate Kyle Caccamise (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.), junior Brooks Mauro (Clemson, S.C.) and junior Gray Wells (Chapin, S.C.) were the others to record hits in the contest. Freshman George Massingill (Greenville, S.C.) had perhaps the best outing on the mound for the Trojans, tossing two and two-thirds innings while fanning a trio.

Anderson got on the board first in the bottom of the opening frame as a defensive miscue that careened wide of its target allowed the Trojans to bring around their first run of the game and take the early 1-0 lead. That's where the game stood until the top of the fifth inning when the Wasps were able to tally six runs in the frame and would add three more in the top of the sixth to swing the advantage to their favor, 9-1.

The Trojans had inklings of a comeback as they posted a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh and a single run in the eighth, but Emory & Henry added a run of their own in that same stretch, shutting the Black and Gold down the rest of the way to secure the 10-4 decision.

The two teams return to the diamond tomorrow, Sunday, February 2, as they wrap up the series with a doubleheader slated for a 1:00 p.m. first pitch.
