WINGATE, N.C. -- The No. 3 seeded Trojans earned a four set win in the NCAA Southeast Region Quarterfinals on Thursday morning over No. 6 Augusta by scores of 25-18, 25-14, 20-25 and 25-22. The Trojans advance to the Semifinals when they will play either Lenoir-Rhyne or Lander on Friday, Dec. 5 at 4 p.m.
"The team played well today for most of the match," head coach
Todd Hay said. "Yes, we had some ups and downs but as whole it was pretty solid in all areas. It feels to good to advance after the disappointing early exit of 2024. I think that just shows this team has come a long way in past 12 months. Really proud of our effort."
The Trojans were dominant early, keeping Augusta from getting a lead until the third set. The fourth set was a battle, as the two teams were within one through 18 points before the Trojans pulled away late.
Anderson hit at .400 and above in all three sets they won, with ten of their 17 errors coming in the third set. The Trojans out-performed the Jags in every statistical category, coming up with 57 kills to their 45, 51 assists and 54 digs.Â
Junior
Emily Campbell (Statesville, N.C.) hit her 200th career block with three in today's game. She added nine kills and two digs.Â
The Trojan offense was led by junior
Ava Reeves (Lexington, S.C.) who came up with 18 kills on a .350 clip.Â
Freshman
Mikaylah Hedlund (Fountain Inn, S.C.) dropped 14 kills on a .353 hitting percentage along with one ace.
Sophomore
Mia Elder (Leland, N.C.) had a team-high five blocks with nine kills.Â
Junior
Ellie Nieporte (Boca Raton, Fla.) had a double-double of 38 assists and 10 digs.Â
Freshman
Jamie Juhnevicz (Taylors, S.C.) led the defense with 13 digs while senior
Katy Smith (Fleming Island, Fla.) came up with ten digs.
The Trojans will look to keep their season rolling tomorrow at 4 p.m. in the NCAA Regional Semifinal.Â
