EMORY, VA. – Anderson University Men's Basketball (6-0, 1-0 SAC) notched their sixth straight win and first in conference play with a 97-46 victory over Emory & Henry (4-2, 0-1 SAC) on the road Saturday evening.
"This team has so much determination and grit." said head coach
Jimmie Williams.
Coming out of a tie at 4-4 in the sixth minute of the game, the Trojans went on a 12-point run to hold a 16-6 edge over Emory & Henry. Anderson found their rhythm and the Trojan's defense made it hard for the Wasps to get inside the paint, allowing only 13 points in the first half.
With three straight buckets from behind the arc to start the final half of the game, the Trojans surged passed the Wasps with a 7-point run to make the score 68-17 before another 6-point run with three minutes left in the game.
"Really proud of our effort today on the road. Especially on the defensive end." added Williams. "Emory and Henry has three really good guards that fit their system perfect. All eight of our guards took on the challenge and made everything they got come through. Our bench continues to stretch out leads. Especially tonight with AJ picking up two quick fouls. In the past we've had to play him in foul trouble to make sure we stay in it."
The Black and Gold held an overwhelming edge over the Wasps in every statistical category, shooting 59.7% from the floor and 50.0% from behind the arc while also going 10-for-10 in free throws.
Redshirt-senior
Kadyn Dawkins (Greensboro, N.C.) led the team with 18 points while going 5-for-5 from behind the line. Freshman
Rashawn Inglemon (Sacramento, Calif.) and sophomore
Caleb McAbee (Saint Johns, Fla.) both recorded 14 points on the game for the Trojans while McAbee also recorded seven rebounds and a perfect 100% shooting performance.
Junior
Osmar Garcia-Araujo (Sugar Hill, Ga.) led the team with nine rebounds on the game while also recording five assists next to junior
AJ Wright Jr. (Clearwater, Fla.) who went 1-for-1 in shots from behind the arc.
"Our depth and unselfishness continue to have an impact. I love this team."
The Black and Gold are back in action on Saturday, Dec. 6 when they host Mars Hill University for another South Atlantic Conference matchup. The game is set to start at 4 p.m.
