Trojans Crack Century Mark in Home Opener, Down Erskine 101-61

ANDERSON, S.C. -- Leading the contest for 98% of the game, the Anderson Univeristy (1-0) men's basketball team's dominant victory was never in doubt as they Trojans were able to down the Erskine College (0-1) Flying Fleet by a final score of 101-61 in their season debut in front of a raucous crowd in the Abney Athletic Center on Friday, November 14.

"Good win today. Thankful that we have a group of guys that really love each other and celebrate each other's successes," said head coach Jimmie Williams. "29 assists, 19 three and a bunch of examples of guys turning down good shots to get great ones. We've work really hard this fall, and I know today was us reaping the benefits of their work."

The Black and Gold were the overwhelming favorites in every statistical category, shooting 56.5% from the floor and 47.5% for downtown in the contest. The scoring for the Trojans was balanced as well, with six members of the squad eclipsing the double-digit mark in the contest. Redshirt-senior Kadyn Dawkins (Greensboro, N.C.) led the way for the Black and Gold on the day, scoring 17 points and going five-for-seven from the behind the line. Sophomore Caleb McAbee (Saint Johns, Fla.) posted 16 points on the board with junior Dallas Jones (Gainesville, Fla.) recording 15 of his own. 

Junior Osmar Garcia-Araujo (Sugar HIll, Ga.), junior AJ Wright Jr. (Clearwater, Fla.) and sophomore Sentinel Moore (Oklahoma, City, Okla.) each were able to add ten points to the Trojans tally in the game. Garcia-Araujo was the leading rebounder for the Trojans, corralling seven total boards on the day to help his team to a 42-20 advantage in the category.

After pushing the contest to a tie at 6-6 in the first three minutes of the game, the Trojans were able to push the pedal to the metal and would not lead by less than four for the remainder of the contest. Anderson nearly evenly split their scoring on the day, posting 52 points in the first half while recording 49 points in the second, eclipsing the century mark with just over a minute to play in the second half. 

"Excited about this season for sure. Short turn around. Excited to see our Trojan Army back in Abney at 2:30 p.m. tomorrow. There were awesome today as always! We have the best fans in the region! I Love This Team!"

The Trojans return to action tomorrow as they take on the Lions of Emmanuel in the final match-up of the 2025 Conference Crossover hosted by Anderson. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
