JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn.--The Trojans made the trip to Tennessee on Saturday evening for the second-to-last game of the regular season and will return home with another three points after defeating Carson-Newman 1-0.
Regardless of being outshot ten to six by the Eagles in the opening 45, Anderson took the lead with Juan Pablo Lepervanche (Caracas, Venezuela) finding his sixth goal of the season in the 36th minute. An Eagles defender poorly heading the ball back to his keeper would prove to be a costly miscommunication, as Lepervanche read the pass and intercepted it, flicking it over the C-N goalie. Lepervanche is now first on the team and third in the league with goals (six) and points (13) for the season.
Lepervanche will unfortunately miss the regular season finale next week after a scuffle in the second half resulted in two red cards—one for him and an Eagles defender. Both sides played with ten men for nearly 35 minutes.
For the remainder of the game, the Trojans put up an impressive defensive effort, led by AU keeper Franco Antoniolli (Cardoba, Argentina), who tallied a season-high nine saves for his fourth clean sheet of the season.
With the win, the Trojans move to 9-1-4 overall and 6-1-2 in South Atlantic Conference play, accumulating 20 points to regain the top spot on the league leaderboard.
AU will travel to Newberry for the final game before post season on Wednesday (Nov. 5). The Wolves are sixth in the league, sitting at 2-3-4 in SAC play with 10 points. The game is scheduled for 7 PM.
