GREENEVILLE, Tenn. -- The Trojans take their winning streak to nine with a four-set win over Tusculum University (7-9, 5-5 SAC) on Friday night by scores of 25-13, 24-26, 25-12 and 25-20. The Pioneers snapped Anderson's set win streak at 21 but the Trojans still move to 12-4 overall and 7-1 in the South Atlantic Conference.
"The story for tonight would be consistency," head coach
Todd Hay said. "Errors really plagued us in set two like we haven't seen in a few weeks. I thought our response to dropping the set was great in set three so that was good. Then again in set four after point 15, we had to fight for our lives to seal the win. Hopefully we continue to learn what it takes to win and not just rest on past successes."
Sophomore
Mia Elder (Leland, N.C.) had a huge night with a career-high 17 kills on a .316 clip. She added seven digs and two blocks.
Junior
Ava Reeves (Lexington, S.C.) followed her up with 12 kills and just three errors with one block.
Junior
Emily Campbell (Statesville, N.C.) was big on defense, tying her season-high of six blocks with nine kills and two aces.
Junior
Ellie Nieporte (Boca Raton, Fla.) dished out 45 assists with 12 digs for a double-double. She added two aces and one block.
Freshman
Jamie Juhnevicz (Taylors, S.C.) led the Trojan defense with 15 digs and two aces of her own.
Though the first and third sets came easily for the Trojans, they had to battle to get the win in the other two.
Tusculum held a lead for the first half of set two before the Trojans tied things up at 15, 17 and 24. They were unable to gain a lead late and lost their set win streak 26-24. As a team they had 17 errors across the board.
They bounced back in set three and got gritty in set four to complete the win. The Pioneers went up 10-7 early before the Trojans went on a 12-2 run to take a 19-12 lead.
Tusculum came charging back to get within two at 22-20 but three straight kills by the Trojans sealed the deal.
Anderson is back in action tomorrow, Oct. 18 when they head to UVA Wise as they look for their tenth-straight win at 3 p.m.
