ANDERSON, S.C. – Anderson University women's basketball (10-6, 6-4 SAC) turned up its defensive presence holding South Atlantic Conference opponent Newberry (5-9, 4-6 SAC) to 45 points winning its seventh straight contest on Wednesday evening at the Abney Athletic Center.
"I thought our defense was outstanding tonight and honestly what I've been looking for from them all season long," said head coach
Jonathon Barbaree. "If you're going to win conference games in the second half of the season, you have to be able to play tough defense."
"I also thought we shared the ball extremely well tonight, ran the floor, and made some good baskets both inside and out," added Barbaree.
Anderson held the Wolves to just 31% shooting while collecting 24 miscues. Senior
Zamiya Passmore was credited with a career-high eight steals in the winning effort. The Trojans also ripped down a season-high 57 rebounds.
The Black and Gold placed four players in double-digit scoring with senior
Diamond McDowell and freshman
Rose Gravel sharing game-high honors with 16 points apiece. McDowell hauled in 10 rebounds to record her sixth double-double of the season. Gravel pulled down nine rebounds, seven which were on the offensive glass. Freshman
