Box Score JEFFERSON CITY, TENN. – Anderson University women's basketball (12-8, 8-6 SAC) dropped a hard fought South Atlantic Conference road game at No. 25 Carson-Newman (15-5, 12-4 SAC), 78-75, on Saturday afternoon at Holt Fieldhouse.
"That was a tough one," expressed head coach
Jonathon Barbaree. "Never happy about a loss, but I know we played hard today, but came up a few points short."
"We're definitely due for one of those shots at the end to fall," said Barbaree. "We are getting good looks, it's coming."
"Some late defensive mistakes to clean up before the next one, but we'll get that right on Monday, added Barbaree.
After a strong first half, the Trojans fell out of rhythm in the third quarter of play scoring just nine total points. However, the Black and Gold stayed strong defensively to off-set the mini scoring slump giving the Eagles all they could handle in the final 10 minutes of play.
Carson-Newman held off the determined Trojans to avenge its earlier loss and its first loss of the season back in November at the Abney Athletic Center.
The Black and Gold placed four players in double-digit points with freshman
Zaynah Preston scoring a career-high 17 points going 7-of-10 from the field which includes 3-of-3 from behind the arc. Senior
Diamond McDowell netted 16 points while grabbing eight rebounds. McDowell went to the free throw line a team-high seven times knocking down six. Senior
Zamiya Passmore recorded her second double-double in a row scoring 15 points and dropping 12 dimes. Junior
Ashlyn Sheridan chipped in 12 points and hauled in five rebounds. Freshman
Rose Gravel just missed her sixth double-double contributing nine points and ripping down 10 rebounds. Gravel also recorded three blocked shots.
Carson-Newman's Lindsey Taylor and Makayla Alvey carried the scoring load for the Eagles dropping in 22 and 20 points, respectively. Taylor paired 18 rebounds with her point total to record her fifth double-double of the season.
The Eagles claimed the overall rebound advantage, 48-44, while the Trojans forced three more turnovers, 17-14.
Anderson finalizes it three-game road swing on Wednesday with a trip to SAC leading Coker. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 pm.
