Trojans Suffer Narrow Loss to Carson-Newman 81-79

Box Score JEFFERSON CITY, TENN. -- Anderson dropped a heartbreaker to Carson-Newman University 81-79. After eight lead changes and five ties the Trojans were unable to come up with one final comeback on the road on Saturday. They move to 10-8 overall and 6-8 in the South Atlantic Conference.

"Proud of our start tonight. We are going to find a way to win these ones," head coach Jimmie Williams said. "Road games against good teams that come down to a possession. So many things to point to, but at the end of the day we gave up a lead on the road against a veteran team that has won a lot of games together. I believe in this team and will have us better prepared in our next one. Credit Carson-Newman for staying together and finding a way. We will be better because of today. I love this team."

The Trojans were up by 15 with six minutes to play in the first half and went into the locker room with an eight-point cushion. They held their lead until halfway through the second half when the Eagles took a 57-55 lead.

It was back-and-forth until Carson-Newman went on a 12-2 run, but the Trojans still managed to regain a lead with a 7-0 run of their own. The Eagles took their final lead with 30 seconds to play and the Trojans couldn't answer. The game saw eight lead changes and five ties.

Malachi Reeves (Lexington, S.C.) came up with a career-high 17 points with 14 in the first half. He shot 6-10 from the field and 5-8 from deep. He added three rebounds and two assists.

Austin Webb (South Point, Ohio) dropped 15 points with eight rebounds and two assists.

AJ Wright Jr. (Tampa, Fla.) came up with all 13 of his points in the second half, adding eight rebounds, eight assists and five steals.

The Trojans finish out this road stretch on Wednesday, Jan. 29th when they head to Coker University for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.
