Anderson Wins Third-Straight with 2-1 Victory Over Mars Hill

ANDERSON, S.C. -- Anderson men's soccer team played their third game in six days on Saturday, hosting Mars Hill for the first South Atlantic Conference contest on home turf this season. The Trojans clinched their third-straight victory with a 2-1 win over the Lions.

"The boys battled tonight and picked up a big three points," said Men's Soccer Head Coach Michael Zion. "Big group effort and a lot of character showed throughout the game and throughout the week."

Trojan veteran Eloy Allimadi (Heidelberg, Germany) found his first goal of the 2024 season off a cross from Diego Jaramillo (Cali, Colombia) to put the Trojans on top early.

The second half saw Mars Hill find the back of the net, though the score was only level 1-1 for three minutes before a Lion foul just outside the goal box led to a devastating direct kick from freshman Juan Pablo Lepervanche (Caracas, Venezuela). Lepervanche blasted one past the MHU keeper, giving back the Trojans' lead.

In goal for the Trojans, Franco Antoniolli Funes (Cordoba, Argentina) boasted a season-high seven saves as Mars Hill recorded 14 shots, eight of which came on frame.

"With three games in the last seven days, the match up with Mars Hill was tough for us," added Zion. "It will be nice to regroup and recover this week before we go into another SAC match up on Saturday."

The Trojans travel for the first of back-to-back SAC road contests next Saturday, taking on Tusculum in Tennessee at 4:30 PM.
