WINGATE, N.C. -- The Anderson University volleyball team's season came to a close in the first round of the NCAA Southeast Region Tournament as No. 3 Flagler College swept the No. 6 Trojans by scores of 25-21, 26-24 and 25-19. This was the Trojans' seventh-straight appearance in the regional tournament. They finish the season with a record of 19-11 overall.
The first and second sets saw the Trojans swinging .265, higher than their season average, but were still out matched by a Flagler side that hit .304 throughout the match. Anderson got worn down by the third set and notched just nine kills.
"I feel like our hitters were pretty confident in terms of being able to score," head coach
Todd Hay said. "They have a size advantage and we didn't pass very well. We just couldn't slow them down defensively, but offensively after two sets we were really pleased with how things stood. We felt like we were right there, we just kind of ran out of serve receive gas at the end."
Sophomore
Ava Reeves led the Trojan offense with 13 kills on a .360 hitting percentage.
Sophomore
Karley Black came up with eight kills on a .278 hitting percentage.
Senior
Brantley Chipley had six kills and sophomore
Ellie Nieporte dished out 29 assists.
"I can't say enough good things about Anderson," senior
Brantley Chipley said. "It's definitely been one of the best four years of my life. Playing volleyball here has brought me my best friends that I know I'm going to be friends with for the rest of my life and being able to play under Coach Hay has been so much fun."
"While today wasn't the result we wanted, I'm really proud of how hard we played down the stretch of the regular season to make it to the regional for the seventh straight year," Hay said. "This team was extremely close both on and off the court. I know they will take with them the great memories of this season. We now shift our focus to finishing strong in the classroom and preparing for a great semester of training in the spring."
