Box Score Gaffney, S.C. – The Anderson University women's basketball team (11-8, 11-4 SAC) used a season-high made three-point baskets to help the Trojans cruise to a, 81-60, win over South Atlantic opponent Limestone (8-6, 5-5 SAC) on Saturday afternoon at the Timken Center.
"Solid team performance today, said head coach Jonathon Barbaree. "I'm really proud of how we shared the ball and played tough defensively for four quarters. We need to continue to build on today as we start the final stretch of the season."
Anderson's Shameka McNeill scored a game-high 24 points, while being credited with three rebounds, three assists and three steals for the game. McNeill also hit three of the season-high 11 team three-point baskets. Senior Britney Bailey tied her season-high with 16 points and six rebounds. Bailey drained a career-high four three-point baskets on 4-of-7 shooting behind the arc. Senior Taylor Hair came off the bench to provide a spark, dropping in 12 points, grabbing four rebounds, dishing out three assists and blocking her 152nd career blocked shot. Freshman Diamond McDowell ripped down 14 rebounds and was credited with two assists and two steals.
Limestone placed one player in double-digit scoring with starting guard Quin Byrd scorning a team-high 21 points.
Anderson used a three and a half minute scoring drought by the Saints to build an eight point lead in the first quarter of action, eventually carrying a ten point lead heading into the second period.
The Trojans continued it solid defense and hot shooting in the second quarter of play. For the half, AU shot 8-of-13 (61.5%) from behind the arc to head into the break ahead, 49-33. Bailey went 3-of-4 from downtown, while Hair hit 2-of-2. McNeill drained 2-of-6 with Brittney Stafford hitting 1-of-1 to equal the Black and Gold's season-high made three-point baskets for a game.
Anderson defense and aggressive play held Limestone in check over the final 20 minutes of action. The Trojans outrebounded the Saints 46-30, allowing just six offensive rebounds.
Anderson continues its three-game road swing with a trip to Greeneville, Tenn. to face-off with SAC opponent Tusculum on Wednesday. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 pm.
