Box Score

Harrogate, Tenn. –Despite a nearly four minute scoring drought to end the game, Anderson University women's basketball team picked up a South Atlantic Conference road win over Lincoln Memorial, 61-58, on Wednesday evening at the Tex Turner Arena.

Anderson (1-2, 1-0 SAC) held onto its seven-point lead with 3:50 remaining in the game to defeat the Railsplitters (1-2, 0-1 SAC) picking up its first win of the season and first in conference action.

"Extremely excited for this team to win such a hard fought game," said head coach Jonathon Barbaree. "When I spoke earlier about us learning from the first two games and the adversity we faced, it would be how will we respond that matters. Today we responded with a team win."

"I am proud of each player and their willingness to play multiple positions," explains Barbaree. " I am just as proud of the ones out hurt for cheering and coaching them up. Looking forward to coming home to play at the house this Saturday!"

The Trojans placed three players in double-digit scoring, with senior Taylor Hair scoring a team-high 18 points. Freshman Diamond McDowell chipped in a career-high 12 points and pulled down six rebounds. Junior Xan Rowland dropped in 11 points, while dishing out seven assists. Rowland's seven dimes ties her career-high, reaching the feat for the third time. Senior Britney Bailey ripped down a game-high 11 rebounds.

The Railsplitters were led by senior reserve Lindsay Proffitt's 23 points. Proffitt connected on 9-of-15 from the field and 4-of-7 from behind the arc.

Lincoln Memorial carried a one-point lead, 29-28, into halftime. Anderson's 5-0 spurt with Hair's two made 3-point baskets mixed in helped give the Trojans a 10 point lead with 3:41 to go in the third period. The Railsplitters cut the lead to five points after a made 3-point basket by Irelynn Davisson with time expiring in the third frame.

LMU pulled within three points with 5:37 left in the contest. AU's McDowell scored on a driving layup, followed by a jumper by junior Nelliah Wilson to give the Black and Gold a seven-point lead. After a quick basket exchange, McDowell's second layup of the quarter was Anderson's last points of the game.

Lincoln Memorial chipped away at the seven-point lead to come within three points with 46 seconds remaining in the game. LMU was able to produce the Trojan turnover and found Proffitt who hit the game-tying and her fifth 3-point basket of the game. However, Proffitt was called for stepping out-of-bounds before shooting, ultimately ending the comeback chance for the Railsplitters.

Anderson will continue South Atlantic Conference action on Saturday when it host UVA Wise. Tip-off is slated for 2 pm.
