Box Score ANDERSON, S.C. – The Carson-Newman volleyball team defeated Anderson, 3-1 (16-25, 25-19, 25-23, 25-21) in South Atlantic Conference action, Saturday afternoon at the Abney Athletic Center.
Anderson (12-6, 7-3 SAC) saw its win streak snapped at four, while Carson-Newman (11-9, 7-4 SAC) claimed its second straight win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Senior outside hitter Maya Learmonth led the Trojans with 14 kills, while senior Regan Duty added 12 kills and four block assists. Senior middle blocker Noelle Knutsen tallied eight kills, a pair of solo blocks and seven block assists on the afternoon, with sophomores Sadie Kluner and Jaelyn Grimm notching eight kills and seven kills, respectively.
Senior Meghan DeVaux came up with 19 digs, while junior Madison Roy dished out 45 assists and tallied a dozen digs. Freshman Hannah Neff and junior Alexandra Petrilli each added eight digs apiece.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set
Learmonth, Duty and Knutsen combined for 10 kills in the opening frame, with AU notching a .324 hitting percentage.
Behind Grimm's serving, the Trojans scored the first four points of the set and never trailed. AU steadily pushed out to a 14-9 advantage before pulling away late for the nine-point win.
Second Set
With both teams posting a nearly identical hitting percentage, Carson-Newman jumped out to a quick 5-1 lead and the Trojans were unable to fully recover.
AU climbed within 8-5, but the Eagles countered with a 7-1 surge to open up a nine-point advantage, and while the Black and Gold closed within four late, at 20-16, they were unable to gain any ground down the stretch.
Third Set
The Trojans overcame an early deficit and used a 9-3 outburst to claim a six-point advantage before Carson-Newman called a timeout.
Following the break, AU maintained its edge, but the Eagles whittled away and caught up at 17-17, before taking a 19-17 lead. Moments later and with AU still trailing by two (21-19), Duty sandwiched a pair of kills around a block by Knutsen to give AU a brief 22-21 edge before C-N answered with two straight to claim a 23-22 lead.
Duty's fifth kill of the frame then knotted the score for the final time, as the Eagles finished with a kill and a block.
Fourth Set
AU scored the first three points of the frame, but C-N stayed close and the score was tied seven times before the Eagles used a 6-1 scoring run to grab a five-point advantage (19-14).
The Trojans got as close as 23-20 on a kill from Kluner, but couldn't close the gap any further.

The Trojans' 18 block assists equaled their third-highest total of the season.
