Box Score ANDERSON, S.C. – Anderson University women's soccer moves to 2-0 after defeating nonconference opponent Southern Wesleyan, 5-0, Saturday afternoon at Trojan Stadium.
With the victory, the Trojans claim their second straight win of the season and move to 2-0 on the season. The Warriors, who also opened their regular season on Thursday, drop to 0-2 on the year.
The Trojans' offense shined throughout the contest, posting 25 shots, including 14 in the final 45 minutes. Leading the way in the shot category was junior Lyssa Engle with five shots with three being on goal. Senior Alaina Gay followed with four shots and three shots on goal.
Senior Tina Shakes gave the Trojans early momentum in the sixth minute when Anderson was awarded a penalty kick after being fouled inside the Warriors box. Shakes drilled the penalty kick into the back of the net for the match's first goal. For Shakes, the goal was her second wearing a Black and Gold uniform.
At the 30:39 mark, Anderson's Gay found the back of the net after receiving a timely pass from freshman Melanie Maddox to put the Trojans up 2-0. Junior Lyssa Engle closed out the first half and opened the second half scoring her second and third goals of the season. Closing out the scoring for the Trojans was Khalia Hargrave with a 20 yard shot in the middle of the field at the 84:15 mark.
The Trojans begin a four match road streak beginning with a stop Wednesday at North Greenville. Kickoff in Tigerville, S.C. is set for 7 p.m.
