ANDERSON, S.C. - The Anderson University women's tennis team
used the momentum started in the doubles portion to claim a 6-3
victory over Newberry Wednesday afternoon at the AU Tennis
Complex.
With the victory, the Trojans improve to 10-6 overall and 5-2 in
the SAC, while the Wolves fall to 14-3 and 6-1 in conference
play.
In the doubles round, Ivey Welborn and Rebecca Bruning got back
in the win column with an 8-5 victory over Vanessa Ortiz and Amanda
Carrillo. Playing in the No 2 spot Alexandra Ebner and Jennifer
Holcombe defeated Elizabeth Williamson and Tara Lamers, 8-4, with
Abigail Gregory and Natalia San Jose posting an 8-5 win over Kelly
McManus and Paula Avellan to give the Black and Gold a 3-0
advantage.
Bruning picked up her 13th singles victory of the season while
Ebner and Nikkola Wichenko put the match away defeating their
opponents from Newberry. Ebner recorded her ninth singles win while
Wichenko posted her eighth triumph of the season.
Anderson continues conference action when it hosts Carson-Newman
on Friday. First serve is set for 2 p.m. at the AU Tennis
Complex.
