ANDERSON, S.C. - The Anderson softball team closed a six-game
home stand by dropping a doubleheader to Georgia College, 5-2 and
3-1, Saturday afternoon at the AU Softball Complex.
Anderson (3-3) had opportunities at the plate to score, but
could not capitalize. Georgia College (6-0) used solid pitching
while taking advantage of Trojan miscues.
Game #1
Georgia College 5, Anderson 2
In the first game, the Trojans knotted the score up at two in the
third inning. Freshman Michaela Smith led off with a walk, followed
by a single by Carli Hurtado advancing to second and Smith to third
on a misplayed ball by the center fielder. The Bobcats tried to
pick off Hurtado at second, with both Hurtado and Smith moving up
and scoring Smith for Anderson's first run of the game. Molly Child
then singled to center field scoring Hurtado from third, making it
a 2-2 game.
Both teams went scoreless in the fourth and fifth innings with
Georgia College ultimately scoring the winning run in the top of
the sixth. The Black and Gold could not answer, allowing the
Bobcats to add two insurance runs in the top of the seventh.
Anderson's Randee Bettis got the start for the Trojans pitching
a no-decision. Lauren Rudesheim (1-2) pitched 2 1/3 innings, taking
the loss for the Trojans.
Georgia College hurler Marisa Boyette (3-0) pitched a complete
game, striking out nine batters to record the victory.
Game #2
Georgia College 3, Anderson 1 (9 innings)
In the second game, the Trojans got on the scoreboard first when
Hurtado led the first inning off with a walk. Child then moved
Hurtado over on a sacrifice bunt setting up an RBI single by Cailah
Niles. The Bobcats answered back in the top of the second by
scoring one run of their own. The score would remain stagnant at
one apiece for the next five frames forcing extra innings.
The Trojans shut out the Bobcats in the top of the eighth
setting up a golden opportunity for the Black and Gold. Hurtado's
infield single moved Kasey Grant, who was placed at second due to
the international tie break rule. Anderson's two, three and four
hitters went down in order retiring the side.
Georgia College scored two runs in the top of the ninth
preserving its undefeated start to the 2016 season.
Anderson's Augie Pena (1-1) went the distance and striking out
five, while picking up the heartbreaking loss.

walks and struck out 11 to grab her third win of the season.
Anderson will look to get back in the win column on Wednesday,

trip of the year. First-pitch in Taylors, S.C. is set for 1
