CENTRAL, S.C. - With five Trojans capturing two wins on the afternoon, the Anderson men's tennis team opened its spring season by knocking off Southern Wesleyan, 8-1, Saturday afternoon at Nettles Park.

The Trojan duo of Nicolas Ascarrunz and Paul Michael Calhoun edged Southern Wesleyan's Camilo Sandoval and Daniel Zapata, 9-7, at No. 1 doubles, with AU's Mateo Rivas and Aljaz Cajzek getting past Stan Grzeslo and Urs Widow, 8-4, at the No. 2 slot. At No. 3 doubles, Inaki Iriberri and Ramiro Urreta teamed up to defeat SWU's Keegan Barkley and Harry Reed, 8-1.

Cajzek posted his second win of the day by defeating Sandoval, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 1 singles, while Ascarrunz knocked off Daniel Zapata, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 2. Rivas outlasted Grzeslo, 7-6, 6-2, 10-5, at the No. 3 singles' slot.

Calhoun edged Reed, 8-7, at No. 4 singles and Iriberri got past Widow, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 5 to wrap up AU victories. Keegan defeated Urreta, 8-3, for Southern Wesleyan's lone win.

Anderson will get back on the courts Thursday, when the Trojans play host to Belmont Abbey at the AU Tennis Center. First-serve is scheduled for 2 p.m.
