GREENEVILLE, Tenn. - Sophomore Rebecca Bruning claimed her
fourth straight singles win, but it was not enough as Anderson
University women's tennis suffered a 7-2 setback to South Atlantic
Conference opponent Tusculum on Saturday afternoon at the Roger M.
Nichols Tennis Complex.
The loss moves the Trojans to 6-3 overall with a 3-2 mark in the
SAC, while the Pioneers opened their spring season with a
victory.
To open the match, Bruning and freshman Ivey Welborn recorded an
8-3 doubles victory over TC's Kate Hutchinson and Kealee Heffner at
the No. 1 position. Despite the win, the Pioneers posted triumphs
in the other two doubles matches and took a 2-1 lead into the
singles portion.
From there, Bruning was the only Trojan to notch a singles win,
as she fended off Erin Mills at the No. 2 position in three sets,
6-3, 5-7, 10-5. For Bruning, she improves to 5-0 against conference
opponents as she is 5-1 while playing at the No. 2 slot.
Anderson returns to action on Friday when it heads to Converse a
nonconference matchup. First serve is slated for 2 p.m.
